This page contains steps I’ve taken to update my “VMware vCenter Server 5.0 and vSphere Client 5.0” to new released “5.0 Update 1” in my home lab.
Well, as part of new released software from “VMware”, you can find “VMware vCenter Server 5.0 Update 1” and as you updating your hosts, you should update your centralized management software, “vCenter” alongside “vSphere Client”.
In this case, first thing you need to do is downloading this release from VMware site using this link and save it somewhere accessible to your current vCenter server.
Based on “vSphere Upgrade Guide” you should take backup from your database and “SSL Certificate” before starting update process, for more information about prerequisites in this regard check “Prerequisites for the vCenter Server Upgrade” on pages 26 to 30.
After you have taken backup from both database and “SSL Certificate” mount ISO file to vCenter server or extract it in folder in current vCenter server and wait for “Auto run” to show up and follow the prompts (just as shown below).
So, here is the main story … 😉
Note:
If you want to update your “VMware vCenter” as well, follow below steps just after taking backup from you database and “SSL Certificate” and reading “prerequisites”.
